Yubo, a Gen Z-focused live social discovery app, recently participated in Safer Internet Day 2023. The one-day event, which was in its 20th year, encouraged youth to express how they would like to be supported online.
Yubo collaborated with the non-profit NGOs Childnet and Respect Zone to advise young users on staying safe online.
Yubo shared resources with its English- and French-speaking users on February 7th, extending the event through its in-app campaigns for the entire month. Young people could sign up in the US, France, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and South Africa.
While users were advised to share their personal experiences on open online platforms, Yubo and its NGO partners also provided tips for online safety. Children between the ages of 13 and 18 were invited to take the Childnet online safety quiz, which provided examples of actual online harassment in the real world and guidance on handling potentially dangerous circumstances.
The co-founder and CEO of Yubo, Sacha Lazimi, highlighted Yubo’s continued support for Safer Internet Day and the significance of giving young users a platform to discuss their online experiences. He thanked Yubo’s Safer Internet Day NGO partners and emphasized Yubo’s dedication to creating the safest and most encouraging online communities.
Safer Internet Day is an annual collaborative global event promoting a better, safer Internet. Each February, public, private, and non-profit participants come together to promote responsible online behaviour and exchange safety information and practical guidance.
The Safer Internet Day events benefit kids, parents, and the educational community.
The UK-based charity Childnet was one of the original organizers of Safer Internet Day and strived to “make the Internet a great and safe place for young people.”
Young people who experience cyberbullying, cyber violence, and online hate are supported by Respect Zone, a French NGO that also works to prevent these behaviours by raising awareness of these problems among a wider audience.
With its in-app safety campaign and NGO partnerships, Yubo’s participation in Safer Internet Day 2023 demonstrates its dedication to advancing online safety for its young users.
