Founded in 2016 as Vigilante before rebranding to Citizen, the Citizen app is America’s top safety app as it boasts of having more than 7 million users. The app’s services are currently available in 22 major cities countrywide, with an expansion program for the remaining cities in the works. Here’s why you need this safety app.
What does the app do?
It has likely crossed your mind more than a couple of times that it would be better for your safety and that of your loved ones if you were able to get updates of security incidences around you immediately. New stations and apps usually deliver their updates a couple of hours later, which might not be of much use if you prefer taking a proactive approach to safety.
The Citizen App is designed to meet these specific needs as it provides immediate safety updates for any concerning incidences happening with a quarter-mile radius of its users. Thus, you can be sure that you will be notified immediately if anything significant happens around you, giving you and your loved one enough time to be safe.
Covid-19 contact tracing
Unfortunately, the United States is among the countries that have suffered the heaviest blows after the pandemic broke out. To help bring down the transmission rate within the country, the Citizen App introduced the SafeTrace feature for Covid-19 contact tracing. The SafeTrace feature relies on Bluetooth technology for contact tracing. As the app users go out in public and other high-risk areas, the feature automatically activates their smartphones’ Bluetooth, which it utilizes to keep a record of other users they interact with.
If any of the individuals they interacted with is diagnosed with Covid-19 within two weeks, the user is advised to quarantine at home and wait for Covid-19 screening. This feature has significantly broken the chain of Covid-19 transmission within the Citizen app community and the larger population. Go here for more information.
