Roy Beck is a former journalist and anti-immigration activist. He is the founder of the NumbersUSA (formerly Immigration Reform Law Institute) and works to reduce immigration levels in the U.S., especially legal immigration.
Beck was born in Rochester, New York, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. He then worked as a reporter for The Washington Post before becoming executive director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) in 1985. He left FAIR in 1994 to found NumbersUSA, which advocates for strict controls on immigration levels in the United States and opposes birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. Beck also serves as president of the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), a think tank that promotes “low-immigration” policies that emphasize improving border security and enforcing existing laws against illegal immigration .
Beck has written several books on his views on immigration issues, including “Alien Nation: Common Sense About America’s Immigration Disaster”, which he co-authored with Mark Krikorian; “The Case Against Immigration” (with David Frum); and “A Future without Immigrants?”. In 2007, he published “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Alien Invasion”. In 2010, Beck published “Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution”, which details his vision of how Congress should address issues related to illegal immigration .
In addition to writing, Roy Beck has appeared on numerous television and radio programs to discuss his views on immigration. He was a guest on “The O’Reilly Factor” in 2010, discussing the issue of illegal immigration. In 2011, he was a guest on “Fox News Sunday” to discuss the effects of illegal immigration. In 2012, Roy Beck received the FAIR Freedom Foundation’s John Tanton Award for outstanding service in the field of defending American sovereignty and security. Being successful is not a primary objective for Beck. He wants to succeed in his mission of bringing immigration levels down to their historical average so that the United States can remain a nation of its citizens.
