Kelcy Warren education story began in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended the University of Arkansas where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He did post-graduate work at Stanford University and was an executive with a major oil company before founding his own, KWK.
Kelcy Warren has been recognized several times by Forbes as one of America’s richest people because he has built a thriving enterprise that is focused on natural gas pipelines, terminal storage facilities, and city gate distribution networks for both gas and liquid bulk chemicals. His projects have expanded to include the construction of an ultra-modern, state-of-the-art, $6.5 billion dollar liquid petroleum and petrochemical terminal in Freeport Texas. The plant is the first of its kind in the U.S.
Warren is also passionate about racing sailboats and has competed in a number of offshore races including America’s Cup and Fastnet. He has been a major sponsor of the America’s Cup since 2003 when he was awarded a seat on the board of directors. Warren was a member of the Oracle Team USA sailing team that took home the Cup in 2010. His company; Energy Transfer Partners is also a principal partner of Oracle Team USA.
Warren serves on the board of trustees for Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, Texas and has been a significant donor to SMU’s business school and their law school where he graduated summa cum laude. He has been recognized by the SMU Cox School of Business as its Outstanding Business Leader of the Year.
He is also a member of the board of directors for the Consolo Foundation, a health care philanthropic organization based in Dallas. He serves on the advisory boards of the Southern Methodist University-Houston and SMU-Dallas. He is a former board member of the Dallas Opera, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the United Way. He has received numerous awards including being named to Worth Magazine’s Power 100 list. Kelcy Warren was named a 2017 Top 10 Finalist for Executive Achievement in Energy by APEX Awards.
