Gino Pozzo is a British-Italian billionaire businessman and the owner of Watford Football Club. Born in 1950, Gino Pozzo was educated at Westminster School.
He subsequently attended the London School of Economics, studying economics and law. He then joined his father to manage his property company before taking over in 1982 when his father died. In 2005 he opened The O2 Arena with Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG).
In 2007 he bought an interest in the Spanish football club Segunda División Side Granada CF from José Calderón for 4 million euros. A year later, he added another 10% to make him a joint majority shareholder with a control of 65%. He also bought a 10% stake in Watford F.C. for €8 million. He has a net worth of £100M, making him one of the richest men in Britain.
On 29 August 2015, Pozzo was one of 112 international investors to sign a letter to “The Guardian” expressing concern at George Osborne’s decision to give tax breaks to oil and gas companies. In the letter, they also warned that they would not support future government policies if they were against the interests of UK plc.
There was no accountability on behalf of the government that had been promised by Osborne: “We understand that you are introducing new laws and policy changes allowing large corporations to define very large portions of their business as intangible assets. This is a change that will affect an unprecedented number of UK companies in a very short time. We believe this will lead to widespread job losses and increased taxes for all UK companies, including those already highly profitable. Most importantly, we believe this change represents a fundamental attack on the interests of businesses such as ours, which have built their brands and reputations on fair terms and conditions agreed with employees”.
Gino Pozzo is one of the richest people in Britain with an estimated net worth of £100 million according to “Sunday Times Rich List 2013”. Pozzo has been married three times- his first marriage was to German Bettina Munter, who he met while studying in England.
