Colcom Foundation is one of the most prominent global organizations focusing on philanthropic activities to support fundamental causes, even though they are not fully supported by popular culture. They do this mainly by supporting organizations focusing on carrying capacity, the local community, and the local environment.
Carrying Capacity
Colcom Foundation primarily focuses on human overpopulation, one of the major causes of the Sixth Mass Extinction.
They support Population Media Center, which uses entertainment education plus mass media to educate people on family planning, which helps prevent unwanted or unplanned births.
They also support the Federation of American Immigration Reform, NumbersUSA, and the Center for Immigration Studies. These organizations seek a sustainable immigration policy, preventing over-immigration into the US.
Local Environment
Colcom foundation focuses on supporting environmental conversation in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Some conservation organizations they support include Hollow Oak Land Trust, Westmoreland Land Trust, WeConservePA, and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.
They also support The Allegheny Front, a public radio program that airs environmental issues around western Pennsylvania.
Other environmental organizations that Colcom Foundation works with include The National Aviary, Protect PT, The Environment Integrity Project, Tree Pittsburgh, The Student Conservation Association, Pennsylvania Resources Council, and The September 11th National Memorial Trail Alliance.
Local Community
Colcom Foundation supports projects that improve people’s quality of life by supporting economic and community development organizations like Grounded and Scenic Pittsburgh. They also support the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Community Center for Craft’s, and Community Kitchen Pittsburgh to support arts and culture, plus education.
They also support health and human services, public safety, plus leisure and recreation organizations like Compassion and Choices, The American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania, and Walled Garden Fountain.
