The Alliance Defending Freedom, formerly Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian-based legal organization that prioritizes cases relating to religious freedom, parental rights, freedom of speech, marriage, family, and the sanctity of life. Although Alliance Defending Freedom is Christian-based, it represents people from all works of life and with different religious backgrounds. Some of its results include taking stands against genocide for Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Yazidis.
The Fight for Freedom of Speech with ADF
Alliance Defending Freedom has worked and successfully represented individuals and organizations in over 400 cases for years. Some include issues of protecting free-speech rights among students.
One case is Michelle Gregoire, a student from Kellogg Community College. She was a member of the Young American Liberty movement. She made and distributed U.S. Constitution copies to her fellow students as a club leader. Despite explaining that distributing the U.S. constitution copies was part of her freedom of speech, she was arrested with her friends for trespassing. This is just one of the cases that ADF represented and had a successful turnout.
International Works
As previously stated, one primary objective of Alliance Defending Freedom was to defend and protect everyone’s religious freedom. ADF International is a branch that advocates for religious freedom and free speech internationally. ADF International has partnered with several bodies and organizations like:
Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA)
- OSCE – Organizations for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)
- (ESOSOC) – Economic and Social Council from UN
Through these incredible partnerships, ADF has won over 30 international cases that protect minority religious groups.
The Fight for Parental Rights and Race-Based Bias
Parental right is a sensitive topic, but ADF has been at the forefront of demystifying life. One case at the forefront of defying parental rights is a lawsuit filed against a school board in Virginia. The board has implemented policies that racially discriminate students. These policies violated both civil and parental rights. See related link to learn more.
